We recently worked with a homeowner in Laporte whose house tested at 18 pCi/L, more than four times the EPA recommended action level. We started by installing a 12-mil Viper vapor barrier across the crawlspace, sealing every seam and penetration to create a continuous barrier over the soil. To ensure long-term durability and performance, the barrier was mechanically fastened and chemically sealed to the foundation walls, helping maintain a consistent negative pressure field beneath the membrane something that’s especially important in tight crawlspaces.

From there, we installed an active sub-membrane depressurization system powered by a RadonAway RP145 fan, which continuously draws Radon gas from beneath the barrier and safely vents it above the home. This is the core of any effective crawlspace Radon mitigation system, and when done correctly, it provides reliable, long-term reduction.

But we didn’t stop there.

As part of a more complete indoor air quality strategy, we also installed a Breathe EZ air cleaner directly into the home’s furnace system. While the depressurization mitigation system removes Radon gas at the source, the air cleaner helps reduce airborne Radon decay products, along with dust and other particulates that circulate through the home. Together, these systems work hand-in-hand to improve not just Radon levels, but overall air quality.

This type of combined approach is especially valuable in homes with tight crawlspaces or limited natural air exchange, where airborne contaminants can linger longer. By addressing both the source of Radon and the quality of the air inside the home, we’re able to deliver a more complete and effective solution.
