Sub-Crawlspace Depressurization Radon Mitigation in Craig, Colorado

North Point Radon completed a sub-crawlspace depressurization radon mitigation system for a home in Craig, Colorado, serving the broader northwest Colorado region including Moffat County, the Yampa Valley, and surrounding rural communities. Elevated radon levels were traced to soil gas intrusion through an exposed crawlspace foundation—one of the most common radon entry points in homes throughout northwest Colorado.

The mitigation solution included installing a 12-mil reinforced vapor barrier sealed across the entire crawlspace soil to create an airtight radon and moisture barrier. A sub-crawlspace depressurization system was then installed beneath the membrane, using dedicated radon collection piping routed to an exterior active radon fan system. This configuration continuously draws radon-laden soil gases from below the crawlspace membrane before they can enter the home.

The home also featured a small basement adjacent to the crawlspace. After evaluating slab condition and construction, we elected not to core the basement slab due to the potential risk of slab compromise. Instead, the sub-crawlspace depressurization system was designed to effectively address radon migration pathways serving both the crawlspace and basement while maintaining the structural integrity of the home.

To further enhance indoor air quality, we installed a Breathe EZ air cleaner filter, which is proven to effectively capture radon decay products, also known as radon daughters or radon progeny.
